Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki does not believe former President Donald Trump is running for president to “[uphold] American greatness.”
During MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki” show on Sunday, Psaki played a clip of President Joe Biden’s speech overseas commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Biden has been accused of plagiarizing former President Ronald Reagan’s speech. However, as Politico noted prior to Biden’s speech, “aides [conceded] that they have studied the Reagan trip closely and are looking to similarly capture the attention of a distracted, disillusioned public and remind them of how much is still at stake. Not only is Biden expected to echo Reagan in paying homage to these climactic battles for freedom and democracy, he will deliver his remarks from where Reagan stood, on those iconic cliffs where the war turned.”
And Psaki hailed the president for his speech.
“To hear both of them now, side by side, you’d think they’re almost completing each other’s sentences as they speak about the sacrifice of those brave soldiers and the role of American leadership in the world,” she said.
Psaki then tried contrasting Biden and Trump, claiming the former president is “denigrating” the U.S.
“The truth is Trump couldn’t really care less about preserving the values that the U.S. has long stood for,” Psaki claimed, adding, “This campaign is not about preserving our freedom, it’s about preserving his own. It’s not about upholding American greatness. It’s about staying out of prison.”
