A delivery route along a busy New Jersey highway took a terrifying turn when a descending passenger jet came into direct contact with a vehicle below, according to dramatic dashcam footage.
According to the New York Post, the incident unfolded on the New Jersey Turnpike as a United Airlines flight approached Newark Liberty International Airport for landing.
Inside the truck, the driver — an employee of H&S Bakery — appeared unaware of the danger overhead.
The video shows him singing along to music as he drove Sunday afternoon, moments before the situation escalated.
A sudden whistling noise signaled the aircraft’s rapid descent.
As the driver looked up, one of the plane’s wheels struck the truck’s window, shattering the glass and sending fragments into the cab. The impact happened in seconds, leaving little opportunity to react.
Despite the violent encounter, the driver escaped with relatively minor injuries. He sustained small cuts and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to reports.
Those connected to the company expressed disbelief at the outcome.
“To me, that everybody on that plane, everybody and the driver, God was looking after them, there’s no doubt,” said Chuck Paterakis, co-principal of the bakery.
“If we did that scenario again, I don’t know if anybody could’ve survived that.”
The aircraft, a Boeing jet traveling from Venice, Italy, continued its approach after the strike and landed safely on Runway 29.
That runway intersects perpendicularly with the highway, placing aircraft on a low flight path directly over passing vehicles during final descent.
Officials confirmed that none of the 221 passengers or 10 crew members onboard were injured.
Planes approaching Newark routinely pass just feet above traffic on the Turnpike, a sight familiar to local drivers.
However, incidents involving physical contact between aircraft and vehicles are extraordinarily rare.
The footage captures how quickly an ordinary moment can turn into a life-threatening event — and how, in this case, both those in the air and on the ground narrowly avoided tragedy.
