Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana revealed Wednesday that questioning President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees was “better than sex.”

Since Biden took office in January 2021, Kennedy has gone viral when questioning the president’s nominees on various issues, including the Second Amendment, or stumping them on basic legal questions. During an exchange with Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, Kennedy said he enjoys questioning the nominees. This, after he questioned Serena Raquel Murillo, a former deputy district attorney in Los Angeles, during Wednesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing.

WATCH:

“Here’s your quote, judge. Your words, not mine. Quote, ‘I think recognizing implicit bias is really important.’ Me too. ‘But I’ll be honest, I don’t think that’s enough. Because the truth of the matter is nobody is going to voluntarily give up their position in favor of women. Women have to demand it. Women have to be willing to require and hold people accountable, hold men who are in those positions accountable, and say, quote, “Why won’t we have an equal number of supervising judges?” Close quote. You didn’t tell me the truth, did you? You believe in quotas based on gender, don’t you?” Kennedy asked Murillo, whom Biden nominated on Oct. 23.

Durbin told Kennedy that his time expired and allowed Murillo to respond. She claimed she did not support gender-based quotas.

“Good try, judge,” Kennedy said. “Good try. Good try.”

After further exchanges with Durbin, Kennedy assessed what it’s like to question nominees.

“It’s an amazing thing,” Durbin said.

“It is. It’s better than sex,” Kennedy said.

Republicans will control the Senate Judiciary Committee starting in January after gaining four seats in the Nov. 5 elections. David McCormick toppled Democratic Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania.
