John Mayer opened up about his dating life after sobriety.
On Wednesday, Mayer appeared on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast and spoke to host Alex Cooper about how dating is “no longer a codified activity for him.”
“It doesn’t exist in a kind of … it’s not patterned anymore,” he said.
Mayer revealed he quit drinking alcohol six years ago and he has “dry courage” instead of “liquid courage” when it comes to dating now.
Mayer also spoke about how it has changed his dating life and said you have to be “really glaringly honest.”
“You have to be honest, you have to express yourself, you have to be really glaringly honest. Here’s who I am, here’s who I like, here’s what makes me nervous,” he explained.
He admitted you also have to “express your anxieties” and can’t just “walk over them by drinking.”
Mayer explained he does desire to get married, but you won’t see him “go on a battery of dates with different people.”
He shared he believes in the longevity of relationships.
“Every relationship I’ve ever been in was devoted to the idea that this could go the distance. My entire life, today included, if you told me that I could have a great two months with someone but it would end on the first day of the third month, I would not be interested. I’ve always sought potential for a long-term relationship,” the 45-year-old singer said.
Mayer reminisced about dating while in high school and said that was “probably the best version” he ever was of himself.
The Grammy winner has been linked to multiple famous women, including Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift, according to People.
