“The View” co-host Joy Behar baselessly stated on Tuesday that the National Guard will prevent citizens from voting in future U.S. elections.
President Donald Trump deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C. and Memphis, Tennessee, and is planning on sending troops to quell crime in Chicago, Illinois. Without a shred of evidence, Behar stated that Trump is deploying these troops to “stop” future elections rather than to fight crime.
“This is a pretext to stop the next election,” Behar said. “That’s what I think it is.”

While co-host Whoopi Goldberg argued that Trump is simply doing whatever he feels like, Behar repeated that the National Guard will prevent Americans from voting.
“And if they stop us from voting, that’s the one thing people have,” Behar continued.
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin also stated that most Americans do not support the troops being present in the cities and that Trump is using it as a political tactic against Democrats.
In the span of 30 days, violent crime in Washington dropped 17% and property crime fell by 18% after Trump deployed the National Guard. Democratic Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said on Aug. 27 that she was grateful for Trump’s efforts to combat crime in the city and has been cooperating with federal forces.
In Memphis, federal authorities have made 321 arrests in the first seven days of the Memphis Task Force’s operation, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Democratic Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson begged Trump not to send the National Guard to their city during an Aug. 25 press conference and claimed the move would be unconstitutional. At least 54 people were shot and seven were killed over Labor Day weekend alone in Chicago. The number of homicides in the city reached a 25-year high in 2021 and have remained significantly higher than the numbers recorded in the last decade, The Chicago Tribune reported.
