Rapper Lizzo appears to be taking issue with cancel culture.

On Sunday, Lizzo took to Twitter to express her frustration with the issue.

“This may be a random time to say this but it’s on my heart … cancel culture is appropriation. There was real outrage from truly marginalized people and now it’s become trendy, misused and misdirected,” Lizzo tweeted.

She added, “I hope we can phase out of this and focus our outrage on the real problems.”

Some Twitter users appeared to be surprised by Lizzo’s take on cancel culture.

One user wrote, “Well-said, Lizzo. Never thought I’d use those words together. Perfect person to note that white wokelets violate the rules they heap on others.”

Journalist Eve Barlow tweeted, “I wasn’t entirely sure what Lizzo meant by this at first, but after a deeper understanding I absolutely agree. Cancel culture has been used to empower self-proclaimed social justice ‘warriors’ who think they’re aiding a cause by ruining other people’s lives. Hate doesn’t win.”

The musician has not been afraid to address controversial issues in the past.

Last week, Lizzo addressed critics she felt were body shaming her.

“If we had to pay money for every comment we post on social media maybe people would think before they type,” she wrote on Instagram.

Lizzo added, “The discourse around bodies is officially tired.”

According to her post, she has seen “comments go from: ‘Oh my gosh, I liked you when you were thick. Why did you lose weight?’ to ‘Oh my gosh, why did you get a BBL [Brazilian butt lift]? I liked your body before’ to ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so big’ …”

Lizzo asked her followers, “Are we okay? Do you see the delusion? Do we realize that artists are not here to fit into your beauty standards? Artists are here to make art, and this body is art.”

The singer then declared, “I’m going to do whatever I want with this body … I wish comments costed y’all money so we could see how much f***ing time we are wasting on the wrong thing.”
