Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) was reportedly cited for carrying a gun at an airport.
Charlotte ABC affiliate WSOC-TV reported a 9 mm handgun was discovered in a bag at a checkpoint at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Tuesday morning.
TSA officials proceeded to contact Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Officers confirmed the gun was Cawthorn’s and said he cooperated with officers.

According to the outlet, the lawmaker was cited for possession of a dangerous weapon on city property.
CMPD reportedly took the firearm.
The outlet noted this is not the first time Cawthorn has been caught with a firearm at an airport.
“In February 2021, TSA found a 9 mm handgun in Cawthorn’s carry-on bag at Asheville Regional Airport. Cawthorn did not face any criminal charges for the incident,” WSOC-TV explained.
Earlier this week, Politico noted Cawthorn recently made headlines for calling Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “thug” and racking up traffic violations.
Politico also obtained photos appearing to show Cawthorn wearing lingerie during what appeared to be a party.
He tweeted in response to the story, “I guess the left thinks goofy vacation photos during a game on a cruise (taken waaay before I ran for Congress) is going to somehow hurt me? They’re running out of things to throw at me…Share your most embarrassing vacay pics in the replies.”
