The saying “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is currently being played out in the media as Megyn Kelly tore into an opinion piece that labeled Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff a sex symbol.
Kelly’s visceral response was to an opinion piece by columnist Catherine Rampell in the “Washington Post” — an article Kelly called “absolutely disgusting.”
Rampell wrote “Doug Emhoff, Modern Day Sex Symbol” where she described Emhoff as a “Progressive Sex Symbol,” “the modern female fantasy,” a “hunk,” and “a high-achieving alpha,” Mediaite reported.
Kelly, in turn, responded on her SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Monday.
“The media is absolutely disgusting,” Kelly said.
Kelly started her piece by explaining Rampell recently criticized Emhoff’s wife Vice President Kamala Harris’ economic plan.
“This is ridiculous, when they’re accusing you of being a communist, maybe don’t propose communism as your economic plan,” Rampell wrote.
Kelly didn’t hold back.
“So, a week later, she writes this drivel, trying to rehabilitate herself on the left, about the current second gentleman, a man who may I remind you cheated on his first wife with the nanny whom he impregnated,” Kelly said. “They either aborted the child or he abandoned the child. Either way, no bueno.”
Rampell added Emhoff overtakes actor Ryan Gosling as a sex symbol.
“Move over, Ryan Gosling. The modern female fantasy is embodied by the man who might soon become our first First Gentleman. Emhoff appears to be a genuine mensch with an impressive career,” Rampell wrote. “He’s smitten with his wife and supports her ambitions, as is obvious from his convention speech and their sweet interactions on the campaign trail.”
“But most important for this sexy sobriquet: Emhoff is secure enough with his own masculinity to sometimes prioritize his wife’s ambitions over his own,” Rampell added.
Kelly, it appears, is not the only one questioning Rampell’s opinion.
“Emhoff is a sex symbol? I mean, this goes beyond reproach,” Fox News host Brian Kilmeade said.
“Translation: It’s so hot to knock up the nanny and pay for her abortion,” Fox Business senior correspondent Charles Gasparino posted on X, formerly Twitter.
