“Former first lady, Melania Trump, and President Trump welcomed French President Macron and Mrs. Macron from the Republic of France to the White House for their first formal state visit on April 24, 2018,” the website explains.
Following the arrival ceremony, the first lady and Mrs. Macron visited the National Gallery of Art and attended a joint press conference.
“Mrs. Trump wore the iconic broad-brimmed, one-of-a-kind hat and an asymmetrical Michael Kors suit to all of the day’s events,” the website said.
The hat is one of the items included in the auction.
As the description states, “Mrs. Trump envisioned a very strong, modern hat with a large brim that matched the Michael Kors suit perfectly.”
It continues, “The elegant hat, without ornate decoration, spoke loudly to Mrs. Trump’s admiration for millinery design and superior craftsmanship. This one-of-a-kind hat was constructed from the same white crepe textile as the suit, and fabricated in New York City.”
Another signed item is a watercolor painting of Trump in the hat created by French artist Marc-Antoine Coulon. The third signed item is a nonfungible token (NFT) of the painting.
According to The Washington Post, an NFT is “a unique digital representation of a good…It’s akin to a certificate of authenticity or a deed and it’s recorded on a blockchain.”
Trump’s website notes the proceeds from the auction will “provide foster care children with access to computer science and technology education.”
