Cartel gunmen carried out a drone strike using explosives during a raid on an airstrip used by a rival criminal organization to move cocaine shipments. The raid proved successful as gunmen from Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) were able to steal more than 4,000 pounds from a rival.

The raid took place over the weekend in the municipality of Tepalcatepec, the main bastion of the Tepalcatepec Cartel faction of Carteles Unidos. Both Carteles Unidos and CJNG are considered Foreign Terrorist Organizations by the U.S. Government.

For the raid, CJNG gunmen carjacked several vehicles that they used to block the main roads into Tepalcatepec and set those vehicles on fire. The primary purpose of the blockades was to keep military forces from responding to a nearby airstrip called La Parota.

Should drone strikes by cartels be addressed by authorities as a national security threat?

For the actual attack, the gunmen used drones to drop numerous explosive devices on three small airplanes that were inside a hangar.

As the drone strike took place, a group of gunmen raided some storage areas and made off with numerous bundles of cocaine believed to be more than 4,000 pounds. The drugs are believed to belong to Juan Jose “El Abuelo” Farias, the leader of the Tepalcatepec Cartel, who in the past has masqueraded as a freedom fighter and played a role in the creation of the self-defense movement against drug cartels.

As Breitbart Texas has reported, drugs are moved using speedboats from Central and South America into the coasts of Michoacan, where Mexican cartels pick them up and move them north to their logistics hubs with the eventual goal of getting them to the U.S. border.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and other areas to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by Jose Luis Lara, a former leading member who helped start the Self-Defense Movement in Michoacán.
