Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is talking about how lawmakers are responding to a sexual assault allegation made against former Vice President Joe Biden (D).

Gingrich noted the comparison between how lawmakers responded to allegations made against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and the one made against Biden.

He was asked if there was a double standard there during a Fox News interview on Thursday.

“Sure there’s a double standard and it’s politics,” Gingrich said. “The left hated Kavanaugh, they hated the idea of President Trump having another conservative Supreme Court justice and anything they could to stop him was okay.”

Gingrich went on to suggest Democrats are “stuck” with Biden and have to rally around him as he is not going anywhere.

He expressed his belief it would be better for Biden to come out himself and address the allegation.

“I think Biden, Vice President Biden, would be much better off to make a statement and release the documents from the University of Delaware where his papers are,” Gingrich said.

The documents Gingrich is referring to are Senate records possibly containing information related to the sexual assault allegation against Biden, according to reports.

Gingrich reiterated Biden can end this if he came out with a statement and released the documents.

“He has an easy way to end this. If he doesn’t end it, my guess is nature of the American news media, it will just keep growing,” Gingrich said.

He added, “It’s now in the New York Times, it’s now in the Washington Post. So even the liberal media is beginning to feel that they have to deal with it.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams have both come out in support of Biden.

Pelosi said, “I do support Joe Biden. I’m satisfied with how he has responded.”

Abrams similarly said, “I believe Joe Biden.”
