NYPD Identify Alleged Buscemi Assailant

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JULY 25: Steve Buscemi attends as SAG-AFTRA members hold "Rock The City For A Fair Contract" rally in Times Square on July 25, 2023 in New York City. Members of SAG-AFTRA, Hollywood’s largest union which represents actors and other media professionals, have joined striking WGA (Writers Guild of America) workers in the first joint walkout against the studios since 1960. The strike could shut down Hollywood productions completely with writers in the third month of their strike against the Hollywood studios. (Photo by Roy Rochlin/Getty Images)

The man who allegedly sucker punched actor Steve Buscemi has been identified.

New York Police Department officials have named Clifton Williams, 50, as the man who punched Buscemi in an apparent random act of violence on May 8 while the actor was walking in Manhattan in broad daylight, according to Fox News.

NYPD made the announcement Tuesday night.

Buscemi, 66, was hit around noon and was taken to Bellevue Hospital and was treated for bruising, swelling and bleeding to his left eye, per New York Daily News.

ABC 7 reported that witnesses said Buscemi chased after Williams, but could not catch him.

The NYPD issued a statement regarding the assault, but Buscemi was not named as the victim.

Buscemi’s publicist later confirmed the “Boardwalk Empire” actor was the victim, IJR reported.

“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city. He is OK and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to [him] while also walking the streets of NY,” Buscemi’s publicist said.

Fellow “Boardwalk Empire”actor Michael Stuhlbarg was hit in the back of the neck by a rock on March 31 in Manhattan’s Central Park, per IJR.

The assailant was taken into custody after Stuhlbarg chased the perpetrator.
