Trouble has resurfaced for Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, as he was booked into a Texas jail Tuesday on a suspected probation violation tied to alcohol use — just as the NFL prepares for this weekend’s Super Bowl.

According to Fox News, the arrest marks another setback for the former professional baseball player, who is currently serving a five-year probation sentence stemming from a prior drunk driving case.

Mahomes Sr. was originally arrested on Feb. 3, 2024, in Tyler, Texas, after being pulled over by police and registering a blood alcohol content of 0.23 — nearly three times the legal limit. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to probation in September.

Under the terms of that sentence, any violation could expose him to serious consequences, including a possible prison term of up to 10 years.

Body-camera footage from the 2024 arrest, later obtained by TMZ, captured Mahomes Sr. in handcuffs pleading with officers and repeatedly referencing his son, who was preparing for the Super Bowl at the time.

“Can I say one thing?” he asked. “My son is getting ready to play in the f—ing Super Bowl.”

During the encounter, Mahomes Sr. acknowledged that he had been drinking but insisted he was not drunk.

“I am not drunk, I promise you. I’ve had some drinks, but he can’t have this right now. This can’t happen,” he said, expressing concern that the arrest could negatively impact his son and the Kansas City Chiefs.

He also attempted to explain away issues with the vehicle he was driving, telling officers the car was a gift and that registration paperwork was still pending.

“We’ve never had a star here in this area, and now we got a chance to be a star, and now we going to have a scandal now,” he said. “We’re gonna have a scandal for no f—ing reason…”

Both Mahomes Sr. and his son later addressed the incident in ESPN’s docuseries “The Kingdom.” Patrick Mahomes II acknowledged the situation became an unavoidable distraction.

“It was during that Super Bowl. It became a story, and so, I had to answer questions about it,” he said. “I think just knowing that it hurt me woke him up to know that like, you can’t keep doing the same things.”

For his part, Mahomes Sr. described the ordeal as deeply humiliating.

“It was the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever been through in my life,” he said. “I called [Mahomes II] right after… and told him, ‘I’m sorry that it’s taking away from your time and taking away from your focus.’”

His latest arrest now puts his probation — and his future — in serious jeopardy.
