Former House Speaker Paul Ryan (R) will be headlining a fundraiser for an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), according to reports.
The fundraiser will be held on Monday, as Politico reports. According to an invitation obtained by the publication, the cost of tickets range from $250 to $11,600.
Politico writes, “It’s a decisive move against ex-President Donald Trump, who has set his sights on Republicans who voted to impeach him.”
Kinzinger was one of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump on the charge of “incitement of insurrection” after rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
During an interview with The Washington Post following the vote, Kinzinger told the newspaper, “When impeachment came up, I didn’t think it was the best thing to do because I think it just gave Donald Trump an opportunity to be a victim, and he’s really good at being a victim. But I knew that if it was put in front of me, there was no choice. It was, frankly, an easy decision.”
Ryan also headlined a March fundraiser for another critic of Trump, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), as IJR previously reported. House Republicans voted to oust Cheney from her leadership position earlier this month.
Kinzinger released a statement responding to Cheney’s removal, “Liz may lose, and MAGA-lago may celebrate. But I predict that the history books of the future will not celebrate. They will say this was the low point of the Republican Party.”
He added, “The loser former guy, who has thin skin and snowflake like personality will solidify his momentary leadership, and we will solidify our position as a once honorable party that was marred by lies.”
