House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is calling President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan “a visionary, once-in-a-century investment” in the needs of the American people.

She said in a statement, “This package is about jobs, jobs, jobs: creating millions of good-paying union jobs, investing in American workers and turbocharging America’s global competitiveness – all while reimagining and revitalizing our infrastructure in a transformative, resilient way.”

Pelosi noted the plan is expected to “make a significant investment in broadband while also investing in long-neglected areas of our infrastructure, from clean water to schools, housing and child care facilities to seniors’ and long-term care and veterans’ facilities.”

Mentioning the “Made in America” tax plan designed to help pay for the package, Pelosi said it will ensure “that big corporations pay their fair share and with a laser-focus on creating opportunities for communities of color and rural areas too often left behind.”

She concluded, “The House is already at work to advance a transformational infrastructure package. Investments in infrastructure have long been bipartisan, and in that spirit, we hope to craft and pass an historic package to Build Back Better: creating jobs, justice and opportunity for all.”

Biden is expected to unveil the $2 trillion plan on Wednesday at an event in Pittsburgh. The price tag could increase to a combined $4 trillion once he unveils the second part of his plan in April.

Not all Democratic lawmakers are on board with Biden’s plan, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), as IJR reported.

“This is not nearly enough. The important context here is that it’s $2.25 [trillion] spread out over 10 years. For context, the COVID package was $1.9 [trillion] for this year *alone,* with some provisions lasting 2 years. Needs to be way bigger,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Tuesday evening.

Former President Donald Trump slammed Biden’s plan, calling it a “massive giveaway” to China and a “heartless attack on the American dream.”
