A poll found around half of Americans believe having the first Black female justice would not make a difference for the country.

According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll, almost as many Americans believe it would be a “good thing.” Only four percent say it would be a “bad thing.”

The poll shows a 65% majority of Black Americans are convinced it would be a good thing compared to 33% that say it would make no difference, as the Post reported.

On President Joe Biden’s decision to nominate a Black woman to the court, nearly 8 in 10 Americans support it. Forty-two percent of Independents support the decision compared to only 16% of Republicans who say the same.

The poll was conducted Sunday through Thursday and surveyed 1,011 adults.

78% of Democrats say a Black female justice would be a good thing for the United States, versus 42% of independents and 16% of Republicans according to the latest ABC News/Washington Post Poll. MORE: https://t.co/1iCU5NN5oR

CNN reported on Friday Biden has selected Ketanji Brown Jackson as his nominee to the Supreme Court.

“President Biden sought a candidate with exceptional credentials, unimpeachable character and unwavering dedication to the rule of law,” a senior administration official said.

According to the official, Biden gave “considerable weight” to other candidates, including Judge J. Michelle Childs and California Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger.

Others appear disappointed with Biden’s decision, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), as IJR reported.

Graham said in a statement if Biden picked Jackson to replace Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, “it means the radical Left has won President Biden over yet again.”

He added, “I expect a respectful but interesting hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee. The Harvard-Yale train to the Supreme Court continues to run unabated.”

Breyer announced his retirement last month.

“My relations with each of my colleagues have been warm and friendly. Throughout I have been aware of the great honor of participating as a judge in the effort to maintain our Constitution and the rule of law,” he wrote in a letter to Biden.
