Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, struck a deal with Netflix to produce documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s programming, according to the New York Times.
The couple may appear in a documentary, but Markle is adamant she will not be returning to acting.
“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” the couple said in a statement.
They added, “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.”
The couple said the streaming service’s “unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.”
A Netflix spokeswoman declined to comment on how much Prince Harry and Meghan will receive.
Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-chief executive and chief content officer, offered his reaction to the deal.
“We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere,” Sarandos said.
The deal comes just six months after they left the House of Windsor as full-time working members and relocated to live in Los Angeles.
After they relocated, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to remind them the United States would not be footing the bill for the cost of security, as IJR previously reported.
“Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!” Trump said.
A spokeswoman for the couple said in a statement, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the U.S. government for security resources. Privately funded security arrangements have been made.”
Markle, during Trump’s 2016 election campaign, called Trump misogynistic and divisive.
Trump responded to Markle’s criticism, “I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty.”
