Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called himself the Senate majority leader and declared Democrats had taken control of the Senate even though one runoff race had not been called.

“It feels like a brand new day. For the first time in six years, Democrats will operate a majority in the United States Senate — and that will be very good for the American people,” Schumer said in a statement on Wednesday.

Schumer said America is “experiencing one of the greatest crises we have ever faced.”

He is certain Democrats understand the challenges facing Americans and is optimistic “help is on the way.”

Schumer expressed his appreciation for individuals who helped mobilize voters in Georgia.

“We are grateful to everyone in Georgia and across the country who volunteered their time, donated what they could, and worked so hard to elect new leadership in Washington,” he continued.

Schumer claimed Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff will be “outstanding” senators even though the race between Ossoff and incumbent Republican David Perdue is too close to call.

He vowed to work with President-elect Joe Biden and Vice president-elect Kamala Harris to advance their agenda.

“As Majority Leader, President-elect Biden and Vice-president elect Harris will have a partner who is ready, willing and able to help achieve a forward-looking agenda and deliver help and bold change to the American people,” Schumer wrote.

He went on, “For too long, much-needed help has been stalled or diluted by a Republican-led Senate and President Trump. That will change with a Democratic Senate, Democratic House, and a Democratic president.”

Warnock won the race against incumbent Sen. Kelly Loeffler.

He told CNN he has no “intentions of becoming a politician” and will continue preaching at his church.

Biden congratulated Warnock “on his groundbreaking win last night” in a statement and is “hopeful that when the count is complete, Jon Ossoff will also be victorious.”

Pelosi also recognized Warnock and Ossoff for their “historic victories.”
