A slight majority of Americans oppose President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for millions of American workers, according to a new poll.

Biden announced last week his plans to mandate all businesses with 100 or more employees to require their workers to get vaccinated or be tested once a week. He is also requiring federal employees to get the vaccine.

A survey conducted by Quinnipiac University found 51% disapprove of Biden’s plans. Meanwhile, 48% approve.

The poll showed Republicans oppose it 84 to 13%, independents disapprove of it 56 to 44%, and Democrats approve of the president’s plan 89 to 10%.

Forty-eight percent of Americans are convinced Biden’s plan “goes too far.” According to 10% of Americans, it does not “go far enough” and 39% say “it’s about right.”

Respondents were also asked about whether they approve of Biden’s plan to mandate companies with more than 100 employees to require them to get the vaccine.

Fifty-three percent of Americans say they approve while 46% disapprove.

While delivering remarks last week, Biden expressed his frustration with Americans who have not received the vaccine yet, as IJR reported.

“What more do you need to see? We’ve made vaccinations free, safe, and convenient. The vaccine is FDA approved. Over 200 million Americans have gotten at least one shot. We’ve been patient, but our patience is wearing thin, and your refusal has cost all of us,” Biden said.

Some Republican lawmakers are advising Americans to not comply with the mandate, including Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas).

“The President of the United States does not have this power, and I am saying to all of my constituents, to the governor of Texas, do not follow this executive order. Do not fear the power of the federal government,” Roy said on Monday.

He continued, “Stand up along your neighbors, your communities, your friends and say no. If you’re in a small business in Texas, or anywhere else in this country, don’t believe you have to listen to an unconstitutional, unlawful order from the president of the United States. You do not.”

Arizona hit the Biden administration with a lawsuit over the mandate, as IJR reported.

“We have filed a lawsuit today against the unprecedented and unconstitutional power grab by the Biden administration and the federal government. The Biden administration is unconstitutionally trying to mandate vaccines, that may affect hundreds of millions of Americans,”  Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in a statement.

He also vowed “to hold the Biden administration accountable and try to stop this federal overreach because we need to protect, not only Arizona, but the entire United States.”
