Former Georgia Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Stacey Abrams said she is focusing on voting rights legislation when asked if she would consider running for the White House.

CNN’s Erin Burnett mentioned a report published by Politico on Abrams, saying, “If she runs and wins the Governor’s Mansion in Georgia next year, Democratic operatives expect her to at least consider a White House bid.”

When asked if it is something she would consider, Abrams replied, “My focus, my consideration, my efforts, my energy is being poured into making certain that we pass the Freedom to Vote Act; that we pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and that we can have a conversation about elections after we do the work of protecting the democracy that undergirds those contests.”

President Joe Biden suggested in April Abrams could be president one day amid speculation that she would run for Georgia governor again, as Fox News reported.

“Stacey Abrams can be anything she wants to be — from whatever she chooses to president,” Biden said.

He added, “You’ve been amazing.”

Abrams lost to Brian Kemp (R) in 2018. Former President Donald Trump suggested in September Abrams “might be better” as governor than Kemp, as IJR previously reported.

“When Stacey Abrams says I’m not going to concede, that’s OK. Of course, having her, I think, might be better than having your existing governor, if you want to know the truth. Might very well be better,” Trump said mockingly during a rally in Georgia.

Abrams refused to concede after her loss to Kemp. Still, she acknowledged he would be certified as the victor of the election.

She explained, “But to watch an elected official who claims to represent the people in this state baldly pin his hopes for election on the suppression of the people’s democratic right to vote has been truly appalling.”
