The bill would effectively eliminate minimum sentencing requirements for crimes, including manslaughter, rape, assault of a law enforcement officer, possession and distribution of child pornography.
If enacted, the bill would require immigrants from those countries currently living in the United States under refugee protections to leave the country within 180 days.
In 2022, the National Association of Broadcasters warned the legislation would hurt local stations and “ultimately fail artists by leading to less music airplay.”
Under the bill, the U.S. cannot dip below 76,000 personnel in Europe unless military leaders provide Congress with a detailed assessment and certify that NATO security wouldn’t be compromised.
