Honduras’ election authorities declared right-wing candidate Nasry “Tito” Asfura victorious in the country’s presidential election on Wednesday.

Asfura, whom President Donald Trump called the “only real friend of Freedom in Honduras,” won 40.3% to 39.5% over Liberal Party candidate Salvador Nasralla, according to a Reuters report. Authorities confirmed the result of the Nov. 30 election after nearly a month of delay due to accusations of rigged votes and technical issues in the election process.

“Honduras: I am prepared to govern. I will not fail you. God Bless,” Asfura wrote on X Wednesday following his declared victory. “I recognize the great work carried out by the councilors and the entire team that handled the development of the elections.”

Asfura will begin a four-year term on Jan. 27. He previously served as mayor of Tegucigalpa, Honduras’ capital and largest city from 2014 to 2022. His win adds to a streak of right-wing victories in Latin America and comes less than a week after pro-Trump populist José Antonio Kast won Chile’s presidential election over a Communist Party member.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised the results of the election on Wednesday.

“The people of Honduras have spoken: Nasry Asfura is Honduras’ next president,” Rubio wrote on X. “The United States congratulates President-Elect @titoasfura @papialaordenh and looks forward to working with his administration to advance prosperity and security in our hemisphere.”

Asfura’s opponent has alleged that the election was tampered with.

“[On] Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 03:24 a.m., the screen went blank and an algorithm (similar to the one used in 2013) changed the data,” Nasralla wrote on X, according to a CNN report Thursday. “The 1,081,000 votes for @SalvaPresidente were given to Asfura, and the 1,073,000 votes that Asfura had were given to @SalvaPresidente.”

“Looks like Honduras is trying to change the results of their Presidential Election,” Trump had written in a Dec. 1 Truth Social post. “If they do, there will be hell to pay!”
