Former President Donald Trump confirmed Melania Trump’s mother’s health was failing.
During his New Year’s Eve party, Trump, 77, spoke to a crowd at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, about the former First Lady in a clip posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Per The Washington Post, her presence has been noticeably absent from his holiday festivities, along with the family’s Christmas photo. Trump explained his mother-in-law, 78-year-old Amalija Knavs, is not well.
“She’s right now in the hospital with her mother. Her mother Amalija is very ill but hopefully she’ll be recovering,” Trump said.
Furthermore, Trump gave a shoutout to Melania, 53, and revealed they had just spoken on the phone. He assured the hospital that she was with her mother in a “great hospital” in Miami.
“Hopefully, that’ll be OK, but it’s a tough one, a very tough one,” he added.
Trump said Melania “sends her love to everybody” who attended the celebration to bring in 2024.
“She knows probably about 95% of the people in this room,” he shared. “We just want to wish Amalija that she gets better as quickly as possible.”
In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, a source close to Melania explained why she didn’t attend the Trump family’s Christmas celebration.
“Melania has always been very devoted to her entire family,” the source shared. “It should be no surprise that she spent this Christmas with her ailing mother.”
In an interview with Fox News Digital in May 2023, Melania expressed her support for her husband in his 2024 presidential re-election campaign.
“My husband achieved tremendous success in his first administration, and he can lead us toward greatness and prosperity once again,” she stated.
She continued, “My husband achieved tremendous success in his first administration, and he can lead us toward greatness and prosperity once again.”
The couple married in 2005.
