President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Monday stating that everyone should “immediately evacuate Tehran.”
Tensions between Israel and Iran peaked on Thursday after Israel launched preemptive strikes against multiple military targets in Iran. With both countries continuing to fire at one another, Trump stated that Iran “can not have a nuclear weapon” before giving his evacuation orders.
“Iran should have signed the “deal” I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” Trump wrote.
With Israel’s initial strike on Thursday, Iranian state media confirmed that among some of Israel’s kills were Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander-In-Chief Hossein Salami and IRGC Chief of Armed Forces Staff Major Gen. Mohammad Bagheri.
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released an over seven minute video following the strike, explaining how the country would no longer stand by while “Iran has taken steps that it has never taken before” to build its own nuclear weapon.
“In recent months, Iran has taken steps that it has never taken before. Steps to weaponize this enriched uranium. And, if not stopped, Iran could produce a nuclear weapon in a very short time. It could be a year. It could be within a few months, less than a year,” Netanyahu said.
While Iran has fired off counterstrikes at Israel, reports indicated Monday that Iran was open to renewed negotiations as Israel continues targeting its military leadership and nuclear sites. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told ABC News on Monday that the country is not interested in negotiating over Iran’s nuclear program.
“I’m not surprised, they want to continue to have these fake talks in which they lie, they cheat, they string the U.S. along, and, you know, we have very solid intel on that,” Netanyahu said. “But of course, they want to keep on building their nuclear weapons and building their mass ballistic missile arsenal, which they’re firing at our people.”
Following Trump’s post to Truth Social, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took to X to state that the president would slightly be adjusting his schedule due to the issue “going on in the Middle East.”
“President Trump had a great day at the G7, even signing a major trade deal with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer,” Leavitt wrote. “Much was accomplished, but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State.”
The conflict between Israel and Iran broke out while the Trump administration had slowly been closing in on a deal with Iran regarding its nuclear program.
