A quiet neighborhood in Cheney was shaken by a chaotic scene when a driver allegedly veered onto a sidewalk and pursued a child riding a dirt bike, an encounter captured on cellphone video.
According to the New York Post, authorities say Wendy Clemente, 56, was arrested after the alarming incident, which investigators believe involved impaired driving.
Footage recorded by a nearby resident shows a silver Ford Focus abruptly turning toward the young rider while its horn blares repeatedly. The child, riding along the street, appears to look back at the vehicle as the situation escalates.
“This woman is crazy,” the neighbor filming the scene is heard saying, as the car swerves dangerously close to the child.
Moments later, the driver reverses and then points the vehicle directly toward him again. The boy rides away as the car accelerates along the sidewalk, narrowly avoiding obstacles.
“She’s trying to run this … Oh my God … You’re kidding, oh my God,” the person filming is heard yelling.
The incident unfolded as deputies were already responding to a separate call roughly a mile away involving a reported burglary.
A homeowner, who was not present, had contacted authorities after seeing someone attempting to open doors via a live security camera feed.
When officers arrived at that residence, they encountered Clemente along with the same vehicle seen in the video.
According to a police report, Clemente allegedly attempted to kick a deputy during her arrest.
She later told deputies she had been out with her dogs and was “looking for other dogs to socialize with” at the time.
Investigators said she was suspected of being under the influence of both alcohol and drugs.
She was taken into custody and booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges including first-degree attempted assault, DUI, and criminal trespass.
Clemente initially denied any knowledge of the confrontation involving the child on the dirt bike. However, authorities said she later admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the arrest.
Court records show she was arraigned the following day, April 29, and later released on her own recognizance.
No injuries were reported in the incident, but the video has drawn attention for the apparent danger posed during the encounter, as investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the case.
