Trump Slams Prosecutor Without Naming Target

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 21: Former U.S. President Donald Trump with attorney Todd Blanche speaks to the media during his trial for allegedly covering up hush money payments at Manhattan Criminal Court on May 21, 2024 in New York City. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 presidential election. Former President Donald Trump has been held in contempt of a gag order in his hushed money trial 10 times. But that didn’t stop him from allegedly attacking one of the prosecutors as he left court Tuesday.

Although he did not name names, Trump appeared to talk about prosecutor Matthew Colangelo, Politico reported.

“I just watched something go on in there, and you have to look at the man that did all the talking,” Trump said.

Both prosecution and defense attorneys talked about jury instructions until the close of court Tuesday.

“He came here for one reason, and where did he come from?” Trump said. “He came from Washington, D.C., the White House and the DOJ. And he argued the case.”

Colangelo was previously employed as a Department of Justice official.

The line is an apparent reference to Colangelo’s previous employment as a Department of Justice official. Trump also said Colangelo is a “representative from the White House.”

Judge Juan Merchan issued a gag order which prohibited Trump from talking about prosecutors, witnesses, court officials and jurors. He is allowed to comment on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Trump has been found in contempt a total of 10 times and fined $10,000. Merchan also threatened Trump with jail time if he continued to violate the gag order.
