Security concerns around President Donald Trump escalated yet again Sunday after the Secret Service discovered a suspicious object during a sweep of Palm Beach International Airport — prompting an urgent reroute of the presidential motorcade.

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the object was found during routine advance checks, and though Trump’s travel schedule was not delayed, Secret Service immediately adjusted his route “out of an abundance of caution.”

This isn’t the first time safety at the Florida airport has come under scrutiny.

Just months earlier, agents discovered an elevated hunting stand with a direct line of sight to the location where Trump typically exits Air Force One. The makeshift sniper perch was found empty — no suspect was located — but the implications were chilling.

“Prior to the President’s return to West Palm Beach, USSS discovered what appeared to be an elevated hunting stand within sight line of the Air Force One landing zone,” FBI Director Kash Patel said at the time. The FBI took over the investigation and brought in advanced evidence-collection and cell phone-tracking resources.

That incident came after the conviction of Ryan Routh, who was found guilty of attempting to assassinate Trump on his private golf course. Routh had set up a sniper’s nest hidden in the bushes — and prosecutors say he nearly succeeded.

Should security protocols for President Trump be further enhanced after recent threats?

This all follows an earlier attack that rocked the 2024 campaign trail when Trump was shot in the ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. That attempt was narrowly thwarted and led to sweeping changes in security protocols across the country.

Now, with a suspicious device found just feet from Air Force One and a pattern of disturbing threats continuing to emerge, the Trump team is facing a renewed sense of urgency — and vigilance.

It’s no longer a question of whether President Trump is being targeted. Sadly, it’s a matter of when.
