Actor Andre Braugher is being remembered after dying at the age of 61.
According to People Magazine, Braugher died of a recent illness on Monday.
He was a known presence on television, playing Capt. Raymond Holt on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” after spending six seasons playing Det. Frank Pemberton on “Homicide: Life on the Streets.”
“Homicide” centered around Braugher’s character and brought him his first Emmy award win in 1998.
He was known for playing “non-nonsense” roles and starred in film roles for “Glory” and the adaptation of Steven King’s “The Mist,” via IMDB.
His Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star Terry Crews remembered Braugher in an Instagram post, stating, “I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent.”

“You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you. Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship,” he added.
Crews also expressed the sadness and pain of losing him and offered sympathy for Braugher’s family.
Another Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star, Joe Lo Truglio, paid a tribute on his Instagram as well. He said, “So many wonderful stories will be told about Andre but for now, all my love goes to his wife Ami and his three boys, who he loved very much and flew back every weekend from the show to be with.”
“We all know how powerful an actor he was, but even more, Andre knew exactly well his most important role and was deeply proud of it. He spoke often about his sons, and knew how lucky he was to have Ami. I’m grateful to them for allowing us to share eight years with him,” he continued.
“I miss him so much already. What an honor to work with a man who knew what it was really all about,” he added.
He then concluded, “I feel blessed and thankful. Miss you Capt Holt. Love, Porkchop.”
Audra Macdonald, Braugher’s “The Good Fight” co-star, stated, “He was the most generous, brilliant, intelligent and hilarious soul.”
