Elon Musk has left his role as a Special Government Employee for the Trump administration.

According to Fox News, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO posted to his social media platform X to thank President Donald Trump and announce the official end of his role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) that aimed to reduce government waste.

“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk said on X. “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”

Since Trump’s executive order established the office on January 20, Musk has been the prominent face of DOGE. Since then, DOGE has aggressively moved through federal agencies, aiming to uncover and eliminate government overspending, corruption, and fraud.

Following Musk’s departure, a senior White House official told Fox News Digital that DOGE will continue functioning as it always has, emphasizing that the agency is “part of the DNA of this federal government.”

The official further stated that DOGE now operates within “nearly every federal government agency department,” with the exclusive mission of eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse to enhance efficiency.

“The DOGE employees at their respective agency or department will be reporting to and executing the agenda of the president through the leadership of each agency or department head,” the official said.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller said in a post on X that the work conducted by DOGE was only the beginning.

“The work DOGE has done to eliminate government waste and corruption — the rot embedded deep within Washington — is among the most valuable services ever rendered to government. And the work has only just begun.”

During Musk’s time with DOGE, the agency achieved an estimated $175 billion in savings through asset sales, contract cancellations, fraud payment eliminations, and other cost-cutting strategies. According to the website, this translates to a savings of $1,086.96 per taxpayer.
