Augustus Ledyard Smith III fue un arqueólogo estadounidense que trabajó en varios proyectos en la región maya en nombre de la Carnegie Institution, incluyendo Uaxactun. Desde 1958 hasta 1963 dirigió investigaciones en Altar de Sacrificios en Guatemala junto con Gordon Willey en nombre del Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology. Desde 1963 hasta 1969 investigó el sitio de Seibal, también en Guatemala.
