Islandia es un país insular nórdico entre el océano Ártico y el océano Atlántico Norte, ubicado en la dorsal mesoatlántica entre Europa y América del Norte. Es el país más occidental y menos poblado de Europa. Su capital y ciudad más grande es Reykjavík, que alberga alrededor del 35% de los aproximadamente 395.000 residentes del país. El idioma oficial del país es el islandés. Islandia se encuentra en una grieta entre placas tectónicas, y su actividad geológica incluye géiseres y erupciones volcánicas frecuentes. El interior consiste en una meseta volcánica con campos de arena y lava, montañas y glaciares, y muchos ríos glaciares fluyen al mar a través de las tierras bajas.
