Kerr Wins Ultimate 1,500m Title in Budapest
Britain’s Josh Kerr stormed to victory in the men’s 1500m at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest, clocking 3:29.35 to claim a $150,000 first prize and cap a season that included a mile world record and Commonwealth gold. He beat Australia’s Cameron Myers as Hobbs Kessler and Cole Hocker and others lined the American contingent, with Jakob Ingebrigtsen having withdrawn from the 1500m prior to the race.

Josh Kerr is a Scottish middle-distance runner who has held the world record in the mile since 2026, with a time of 3:42.66. In the 1500 metres, Kerr won gold at the 2023 World Championships, silver at the 2024 Summer Olympics, and bronze at the 2020 Summer Olympics. In the mile, he is the 2026 Commonwealth Games champion. In the 3000 metres, Kerr is the 2024 and 2026 world indoor champion. As a junior, Kerr won gold at the 2015 European Junior Championships.

Overview

Josh Kerr (born 8 October 1997) is a Scottish middle-distance runner who competes primarily in the 1500 metres. He is the 2023 world champion, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist in the event. He won the gold medal at the 2015 European Junior Championships, and represented Great Britain at the 2017 World Championships but did not reach the semifinals. Josh’s older brother, Jake Kerr, played international rugby for Scotland. Career During the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Kerr claimed the bronze medal in his specialist event after posting a personal best time of 3m 29.05s, narrowly missing out on silver.
