Texas es el estado más poblado en el Sur de los Estados Unidos. Limita con los estados estadounidenses de Luisiana al este, Arkansas al noreste, Oklahoma al norte y Nuevo México al oeste. Al sur y suroeste tiene una frontera internacional con los estados mexicanos de Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León y Tamaulipas, a lo largo de un límite natural formado por el Río Grande. Texas tiene una costa en el Golfo de México al sureste. Con una superficie de 268.596 millas cuadradas (695.660 km2) y una población estimada de más de 31,7 millones de habitantes en 2025, es el segundo estado más grande de EE.UU. tanto por superficie como por población. Texas es apodado el "Lone Star State" por la estrella única en su bandera, simbólica de su antiguo estatus como país independiente, la República de Texas.
