Roughly 5,000 Illegal Immigrants Released Into US Daily, Biden Officials Say: Report

LUKEVILLE, ARIZONA - DECEMBER 07: Immigrants walk into the United States after they crossed the U.S.-Mexico border on December 07, 2023 in Lukeville, Arizona. A surge of immigrants illegally passing through openings cut by smugglers into the border wall has overwhelmed U.S. immigration authorities, causing them to shut down several international ports of entry so that officers can help process the new arrivals. Roughly 5,000 illegal immigrants are being released into the United States each day, officials in the Biden Administration say.

During a meeting on Friday with Arizona lawmakers, officials from the Department of Homeland Security revealed roughly 670,000 “gotaways” had been able to enter the country through the border last fiscal year, according to Fox News.

Arizona lawmakers were also informed that each day, around 5,000 illegal immigrants are released to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that provide them with assistance.

Around 1,600 migrants are reportedly processed and then released into the U.S. after being given humanitarian parole. Through the use of humanitarian parole, foreign nationals who may not otherwise be allowed to enter the U.S., are allowed entry due to emergency or humanitarian reasons, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) website.

The humanitarian parole is provided through the use of the CBP One app, which provides migrants with a variety of resources and services provided by the CBP.

During the previous fiscal year, FY23, 2.4 million migrant encounters were reported, along with more than 260,000 encounters reported in September.

Since the start of FY24, more than 440,000 migrant encounters have been reported, according to CBP officials.

Republican lawmakers have consistently called upon President Joe Biden and his administration to address the ongoing migrant crisis at the border.

On Wednesday, the Senate voted 49-51 against advancing Biden’s request for a $111 billion supplemental funding bill. Included in the bill was funding for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan and funding to increase border security.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has encouraged his fellow Republicans to vote against funding for Ukraine until changes are made to border security. McConnell has been an avid supporter of sending aid to Ukraine amid its ongoing war against Russia.

“Senate Republicans know this isn’t an either-or-proposition,” McConnell said during a speech on Wednesday. “We know that national security begins with border security. I’ve spent months highlighting the undeniable links between the threats we face in Europe, in the Middle East, and in the Indo-Pacific. But Democratic leadership appears to be telling us today that they’re willing to risk each of thee urgent priorities to avoid fixing our own borders right here at home.”
