British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been hospitalized shortly after testing positive for the coronavirus, as IJR previously reported.

His office released a statement responding to the doctor’s advice.

“On the advice of his doctor, the Prime Minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests. This is a precautionary step, as the Prime Minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus ten days after testing positive for the virus,” the statement reads.

In continued, “The Prime Minister thanks NHS staff for all of their hard work and urges the public to continue to follow the government’s advice to stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.”

According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, the United Kingdom has reported at least 48,407 confirmed cases and at least 4,943 deaths, as of Sunday evening.

Johnson previously responded to his diagnoses in a tweet.

“Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus,” Johnson tweeted. “I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this.”

As the coronavirus wreaks havoc across the globe, more government officials are taking measures to take care of themselves and their constituents.

President Donald Trump originally tested negative for the coronavirus. He was recently tested again, as IJR previously reported.

He tested negative for a second time after using the point-of-care test.

White House Physician Sean Conley released a statement on Trump’s results.

“This morning, the President was tested again for COVID-19, utilizing a new, rapid point-of-care test capability. He is healthy and without symptoms,” Conley said.

The United States has become the nation with the most coronavirus cases. As of Sunday evening, the total number of confirmed cases has reached 331,151 with at least 9,458 deaths.
