Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) is calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) to remove current mayor Bill de Blasio (D) over his handling of the protests amid George Floyd’s death.

On Tuesday morning, Giuliani took to Twitter with multiple tweets, expressing his concern and disapproval over de Blasio’s leadership. The former mayor, who also serves as an attorney for President Donald Trump, believes de Blasio has lost control of the city.

“Gov. Cuomo should remove Mayor DiBlasio. He is preventing the NYPD from taking the actions that have prevented riots in the past,” Giuliani tweeted.

“The Mayor in NYC has lost control of the mob and of the city,” he continued, adding, “The Mayor is preventing the NYPD to take the actions necessary to stop brutal attacks on police and citizens. He is even falsely accusing NYPD of taking excessive action when he has made them punching bags.”

Gov. Cuomo should remove Mayor DiBlasio. He is preventing the NYPD from taking the actions that have prevented riots in the past. Surely, you remember the Gigante report which helped me prevent riots under circumstances of long protests with many attempts to turn them violent.

Giuliani continued his attack on de Blasio during a Fox Business interview with Maria Bartiromo saying, “The mayor should step down. He’s incompetent.”

“This should have been stopped five days ago. I mean, couldn’t they have stopped some of that?” Giuliani said. “We have watched now over and over again people looting, throwing Molotov cocktails, burning cars, and now putting our police in prison, in hospitals, and virtually no major arrests are made.”

See Giuliani remarks below:

In recent days, de Blasio has found himself at the center of controversy over his handling of multiple officer-involved incidents amid protests.

Both police advocates and civil rights groups are sounding off about the incidents and the mayor’s leadership.

One incident involves footage that appears to show New York Police Department officers driving a patrol vehicle into a crowd of protesters.

Another incident shows a woman, who appears to pose no threat, being shoved to the ground by an NYPD officer yelling expletives at her.

Despite Giuliani’s criticism of de Blasio, he has also been at the center of controversy for more than a year due to his alleged involvement in a scheme to uncover unfavorable information on former Vice President Joe Biden (D), which was part of the basis of President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.

Protests and riots have continued in more than 140 cities across all 50 states for a full week.

The death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody has reignited the racial tensions in the United States and many politicians, both Democratic and Republican, insist the president’s rhetoric is only making the situation worse.

Many are urging him to make a call for unity as opposed to widening the divide.
