President Donald Trump slammed New York City after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled a Manhattan prosecutor can obtain his financial records including his tax returns.

During a roundtable event with Hispanic leaders, Trump expressed his frustration with the ruling.

“This is purely political. I win at the federal level and we won very decisively and so they send it into New York,” Trump said.

He added, “And you know what’s going on in New York. Everyone’s leaving. It’s turned out to be a hellhole. They better do something about it because people are leaving New York, but this is a political witch hunt.”

The 7-2 ruling authored by Chief Justice John Roberts means a subpoena can be enforced for financial records to be turned over to a grand jury as part of a criminal investigation, as IJR previously reported.

Trump has previously refused to release tax returns and other financial documents that could potentially reveal details of his wealth and activities of the Trump Organization.

During a White House press briefing, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Trump’s taxes are still under audit and his taxes will be released once the audit has been completed, as IJR previously reported.

She did not specify which years are under audit.

Trump promised he would release his taxes in 2016, and before that in 2011.

He went on to explain how the “political witch hunt” began long before he took office with former President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

“It’s been from before I got here when Obama and Biden and everybody else was spying on my campaign illegally, they were illegally spying on my campaign,” Trump said.

He added, “And it’s a very grave crime, it’s the biggest political crime in the history of our country.”
