Climate activist Greta Thunberg  is questioning politicians about how long they think they can “ignore the climate crisis.”

“How long do you honestly believe that people in power like you will get away with it? How long do you think you can continue to ignore the climate crisis, the global aspect of equity, and historic emissions, without being held accountable?” Thunberg asked politicians on Thursday during the House Oversight Environment Subcommittee hearing.

She continued, “You get away with it now, but sooner or later people are going to realize what you have been doing all this time.”

Thunberg previously accused lawmakers of not trying “hard enough” to combat climate change in 2019. She told the Senate climate task force, “Save your praise.”

She continued, “Don’t invite us here to just tell us how inspiring we are without actually doing anything about it.”

Last month, Thunberg took aim at the Biden administration, accusing it of not taking the issue seriously, as IJR previously reported.

“I would just like [Biden] to basically just treat the climate crisis like a crisis,” Thunberg told MSNBC.

She went on, “They have said themselves that this is an existential threat, and they better treat it accordingly, which they are not. They are just treating the climate crisis as it was a political topic among other topics.”

Speaking from the White House during a virtual climate summit with 40 world leaders on Thursday, Biden called on those “who represent the world’s largest economies” to unite and fight climate change, as IJR reported.

The president explained, “No nation can solve this crisis on our own, as I know you all fully understand. All of us, particularly those of us who represent the world’s largest economies, we have to step up.”

He claimed, “Those that do take action and make bold investments in their people, in clean energy future, will win the good jobs of tomorrow and make their economies more resilient and more competitive.”

Biden noted the United States is taking steps down a path of net-zero emissions no later than 2050.
