Vice President Kamala Harris is pushing back against naysayers in her career.

Harris became the first woman vice president after President Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election. She also was the first Black woman and the first South Asian American woman nominated for the position.

Speaking with MSBNC’s Mika Brzezinski, the “Morning Joe” co-host said before a part of the segment of the interview aired on Tuesday night, “She also shared her advice to women embarking on a career. This is what she tells those she mentors.”

“I eat no for breakfast,” Harris said.

The vice president continued, “So have I been told many times during my career things from ‘you are too young, it’s not your turn, they are not ready for you, no one like you has done it before.’ I have heard all of those things many times over the course of my career, but I didn’t listen.”

She also encouraged others not to be “encumbered by the inability of others to see the potential of who you are,” adding, “It’s really important to recognize the limitations that other people have based on their expectations and to not impose that on one’s self.”

Brzezinski’s full interview with Harris is set to air on Tuesday morning.

Harris’s husband Doug Emhoff also made history when he became the first second gentleman of the United States.
