Bob Woodward suggested then-President Donald Trump’s actions amounted to a “national security emergency.”
During an appearance on CNN’s “New Day” with his colleague, Bob Costa, host John Berman revealed the final words of their book titled “Peril.”
“Your last two words, circled right here, ‘peril remains.’ So Bob, why is that so important?” Berman said.
Woodward responded, “Well, because Trump is out there. Bob Costa and I think he’s going to run again. He clearly has support, some of the polling shows he would beat Biden.”
He continued, “Now, Trump [is] out there, we have democracy, anyone can run for president, but we know what he did for four years.”
Woodward argued Trump did not “worry enough about the people in the country, worried about his own political standing, his impulses, and I think the basic theme of our book is, his actions were not just a problem in the United States, it was a national security emergency.”

Chiming in, Costa discussed how they “started off thinking it was a crisis, and we concluded based on our reporting it’s an emergency. That’s why the peril remains.”
Costa continued by explaining how there was an “erosion of all the people around President Trump not corralling him in the presidency. That’s why we believe, based on our reporting, that the peril does remain. The system barely held together.”
Their book was released on Tuesday.
During a Fox News interview earlier this month, the former president opened up about his plans for 2024, as IJR reported.
On whether he is planning on running, Trump said, “I don’t think we’re going to have a choice. It is disgraceful.”
Taking a swipe at President Joe Biden, Trump called him “an incompetent person as the leader of our country” and accused his administration of being “divisive.”
