Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) explained why he is “highly suspect” of President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court Nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson.

During an episode of his podcast, “Verdict with Ted Cruz,” the senator shared details about his meeting with Jackson.

“I’ll tell you a couple of interesting moments from meeting in my office,” Cruz said, adding, “When she was there, I offered her and everyone there some Cuban coffee. As a Cuban American, I sometimes, when people come to my office, we make Cuban coffee, and she turned down the Cuban Coffee.”

He continued, “Which, I got to say, anyone that turns down coffee I’m highly suspect of. I enjoyed the Cuban coffee.”

Cruz later responded to criticism he received following his remarks, saying, “Leftists have difficulty comprehending humor or sarcasm.”

Last month, Cruz issued a statement responding to the news of Jackson’s nomination to the court.

“While I previously voted against confirming Judge Jackson to her current position on the D.C. Circuit, I will engage in careful consideration of her nomination. I will closely scrutinize her record, as I firmly believe that justices must hold fidelity to the Constitution and the proper role of a judge—that of an impartial jurist, not a robed partisan,” Cruz said.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) also voted against confirming Jackson to her current position.

“Ultimately, I will be looking to see whether Judge Jackson will uphold the rule of law and call balls and strikes, or if she will legislate from the bench in pursuit of a specific agenda,” Cornyn said following Jackson’s nomination.

He explained Jackson would be “given the dignity and respect she deserves.”

The president called Jackson “one of our nation’s brightest legal minds and will be an exceptional Justice.”

According to CNN, Senate Democratic leaders hope to vote to confirm Jackson by mid-April.
