Fox News’s Peter Doocy questioned White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about whether the administration has plans to delete its Twitter account amid Elon Musk’s takeover.

During a White House press briefing Wednesday, Doocy asked, “When are you guys going to delete the White House Twitter account?”

Jean-Pierre replied, “Why would we do that?”

He explained, “You’re saying that you’re keeping an eye on Twitter because it might not be a suitable platform, so why use it?”

Jean-Pierre explained, “The president has always said, and has been very clear in his belief that it is important of social media platforms to continue to take steps to reduce hate speech and misinformation and…we’ll continue to say that.”

She admitted she did not “have anything to share on any policy or any changes that we will be making.”

The White House press secretary added, “We have multiple platforms, as you know, that we utilize to communicate with the American people.”

Doocy went on to ask if the administration sees something it does not like, “Would you try to shut Twitter down?”

According to Jean-Pierre, the administration is “paying attention to what is in the news and what is being reported on the misinformation that’s out there.”

She reiterated it is important to call out hate speech and misinformation.

Doocy’s question comes the same day that Twitter CEO Elon Musk commented on whether he believed the platform has interfered with elections.

Musk replied to a tweet stating, “Twitter has shown itself to be not safe for the past 10 years and has lost users’ trust. The past team of ‘trust and safety’ is a disgrace, so it doesn’t have any right to judge what is being done now. They had a chance, but they sold their souls to a corporation.”

He replied, “Exactly. The obvious reality, as long-time users know, is that Twitter has failed in trust & safety for a very long time and has interfered in elections.”

Musk added, “Twitter 2.0 will be far more effective, transparent and even-handed.”

Additionally, on Wednesday, Twitter appeared to quietly make a change to the company’s “COVID-19 misleading information policy,” as IJR reported.
