Former President Donald Trump is facing a question about whether he will pledge to end the weaponization of the justice system.

Fox News’ Sean Hannity interviewed Trump Wednesday and asked if he would pledge to “restore equal justice, equal application of our laws, [and] end this practice of weaponization” of the justice system.”

The former president responded, “You have to do it.”

“I know you want me to say something so nice,” Trump continued. “But, I don’t want to look naive. What they’ve done to the Republican Party… they want to arrest on no crime the person who won the nomination in a landslide…. We can’t let this happen, and I will do everything in my power not to let it [happen]. What they’re doing to me—if it continues—we’re really not going to have a country left.”

Several reports have focused on Trump’s talk of “retribution” if he wins the November general election. During a rally at the Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this year, he told supporters, “For hard-working Americans, Nov. 5 will be our new Liberation Day. But for the liars, and cheaters, and fraudsters, and censors and imposters who have commandeered our government, it will be their Judgment Day.”

And during an interview with Newsmax, Trump spoke about the criminal cases he is facing and guilty verdict in his hush money trial and suggested he could have prosecuted former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while he was in office, but said it would have been “terrible.” Still, he suggested “it’s very possible that it’s gonna have to happen to” Democrats.

Such comments have led to a wave of articles suggesting Trump is vowing to prosecute his rivals. On Wednesday, The New York Times published a story with the headline, “Trump’s Vows to Prosecute Rivals Put Rule of Law on the Ballot.”

However, when it comes to talking about what his retribution or revenge would look like if he wins again, Trump told Fox News, “My revenge will be success.”
