President Joe Biden is taking aim at Republicans for holding up aid to Ukraine.

However, he confused the name of the country with Iraq while speaking to reporters over the weekend.

Speaking to reporters, Biden said, “The idea that we’d become semi-isolationist now, which some are talking about. I mean, the idea we had to wait all those months just to get the money for Iraq because we were waiting… it’s just not who we are. It’s not who America is.”

That was not the first time Biden criticized Republicans for delaying aid to Ukraine while he was out of the country.

On Friday, he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and said, “You continue to fight in a way that is just remarkable. Just remarkable. And we’re not going to walk away from you.”

“I apologize for the weeks of not knowing what was going to happen in terms of funding… Some of our very conservative members were holding it up.”

Earlier this year, stand-off between the White House and conservative members of the House led to a months-long delay in Ukraine aid.

Republicans initially sought to link aid to Ukraine with new border security measures. However, that deal fell apart after former President Donald Trump came out in opposition to it.

Despite a threat to House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) leadership, in April, he held a vote on aid for Ukraine and Taiwan without border security measures.
