Tom Holland, best known for playing Spider-Man, is recovering after a serious on-set accident that left him hospitalized with a head injury.
The 29-year-old actor reportedly cracked his head on a concrete sidewalk during a high-stakes stunt while filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the next installment in the popular Marvel franchise. According to his representatives, Holland was performing his own stunt when the incident happened, causing a halt in production and raising questions about his ability to continue filming.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and tense, as medics rushed to help after Holland hit the ground. Some crew members thought it was part of the scene—until it clearly wasn’t.

The film, which has a budget of $150 million, had been filming at Leavesden Studios in Watford, U.K., and is now on pause as medical teams assess the full extent of Holland’s injury. Sources close to the production say the injury appears to be a serious concussion. Some reports have even suggested a possible skull fracture, though this has not been confirmed by the studio.
Dominic Holland, Tom’s father, told reporters that his son may be in recovery “for a while,” and that doctors are closely monitoring his condition. Another woman, believed to be Tom’s stunt double, was also taken to a hospital for evaluation, according to The Sun. It’s unclear whether she was injured in the same scene or a separate stunt.
Although there is no official word from the studio, the U.K.’s Health and Safety Executive may launch an investigation into the working conditions that led to the accident. Their job is to ensure that film sets and workplaces meet legal safety standards.
Just days after the fall, Holland was reportedly well enough to attend a comedy show where his father was performing. He arrived with his fiancée, actress Zendaya, but left the venue early after feeling unwell, The Sun reported. That outing, although brief, is seen by some fans as a sign he may be on the mend — though others say it’s too soon to tell.

This incident comes at a critical time for the franchise. Holland’s Spider-Man has become a central character in the Marvel universe, especially after the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. Holland had described his excitement about returning to a more grounded style of storytelling in this fourth film, calling the new approach a “breath of fresh air.”
Production for Spider-Man: Brand New Day was also being shot on location in Glasgow, Scotland, to give the film a more authentic look. Holland had previously said that working through pandemic restrictions was difficult, so this new set had him feeling re-energized.
The film is currently set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026. But with filming paused and Holland’s recovery timeline still uncertain, it’s not clear whether that release date will hold.

Sony Pictures and Leavesden Studios have not issued any official statements.
This is not the only stunt-related injury to hit Hollywood this year. Actress Charlize Theron also suffered injuries while filming Apex, an action film where she performed scenes without a harness. During a Netflix event, she mentioned doing her own stunts — “sometimes without a harness” — and joked, “Don’t tell Netflix.”
For now, fans of the Spider-Man series are watching closely, hoping for good news — and a safe return — for Tom Holland.
