“The View” co-host Joy Behar didn’t win any favor with supporters of Presdident Donald Trump when she referred to them as “poorly educated” Americans.
Behar’s words were in response to Whoopi Goldberg’s question in Thursday’s show about whether Trump’s address to the nation Wednesday night offered her any “clarity” on Trump’s plans regarding Iran.
“No, he — first of all, he wants to bring a country to the stone age. There are people there in Iran, by the way,” Behar said in response to Goldberg’s question. “It’s not just two or three people running the place. There are actual people there. He wants to bring it to the Stone Age, and at the same time he wants a Nobel Peace Prize. That is the definition of crazy.”
“Also, there’s like magical thinking that all of a sudden the gas prices, which are $10 in California in some parts —a gallon —and the stock market is in the toilet. He thinks this is magically going to come back. Does he really think we’re that stupid?” Behar asked.
Sunny Hostin answered, “Yes!”
“He does,” Goldberg added.
“Yeah, but I’m not one of the poorly educated, OK? Those are the ones he thinks he can get to and those are the ones who are gonna turn on him,” Behar said.
“The crazy thing is even the poorly educated recognize when they’re being grifted. Just because you don’t have book learning doesn’t mean you don’t — you’re not smart enough to know when somebody is bamboozling you,” Goldberg said.
“They’re feeling it themselves at the pump,” Behar said.
Hostin chimed in about Trump’s low approval rating.
“His approval rate is down to 35% which is an all-time low. And I didn’t gain any clarity,” she said.
“What, is it 35?” Behar asked.
Hostin responded, “35%, yeah. And you know, numbers matter to him. For me I didn’t gain much clarity but I think the Iranians did because he said it’s going to be over this two to three weeks. Why would you tell your alleged enemy, why would you telegraph your enemy, ‘Just hold off for two or three weeks then you’re going to be good!’ So that was very unpresidential and not very smart.”
