The Diamondbacks designated Lourdes Gurriel Jr. for assignment and recalled Jose Fernandez to take his roster spot after Gurriel slumped to .210/.254/.290 with two homers this season following a torn ACL last year. Gurriel, 32, signed a three-year, $42 million deal before 2024 with a $14 million option and $5 million buyout for 2027, and was an All-Star in 2023 when Arizona reached the World Series.
