Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar is suggesting Americans can slow the spread of the coronavirus by following three simple rules.

Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo asked Azar on Tuesday what he attributes the surge in coronavirus cases to.

According to Azar “behaviors” are a “major driver” of the surge.

He went on to propose a solution to the issue at hand.

“We can continue to reopen, to get back to work, get back to school, get back to health care, but we have to act responsibly as individuals,” Azar said.

He added, “If we simply do three things: practice social distancing, wear facial coverings when we can’t social distance and practice proper personal hygiene. If we do those three things, we can turn around the tide of these new cases and continue to reopen.”

Bartiromo pressed Azar asking him to clarify whether or not he attributes the spikes to Americans not adhering to the federal guidelines for reopening.

Azar explained there are other states going through the same reopening process and are not seeing the same surge as others.

“There’s clearly a major element of that because we see other states and other counties that are engaged in exactly the same or even greater levels of reopening that are not seeing surges in cases,” Azar said.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and member of the White House coronavirus task force, warned in Tuesday’s Senate health committee hearing, coronavirus cases could double if Americans do not adhere to social distancing guidelines.

As of Monday, states including California and Texas have seen a sharp spike in the number of coronavirus infections.

Nationwide, there are more than 2.6 million coronavirus cases and over 126,000 deaths.
