Democratic Seattle Mayor-elect and self-described socialist Katie Wilson boasted in a Tuesday X post that she no longer requires financial assistance from her parents to pay for childcare.
Wilson, an activist who has been widely compared to socialist Democratic New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, unseated incumbent Democratic Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell on Nov. 12. She wrote on X that her new role as Seattle mayor, which pays about $230,000, will allow her to get off her parents’ dole for expensive childcare.
“After much deliberation and a grueling interview process, I’m pleased to announce that I’ve accepted a new job and will not need any financial support from my parents to cover the high costs of childcare going forward,” Wilson wrote.
