CNNâs Jim Acosta is questioning whether former President Donald Trump is mentally fit for the job after repeating a debunked story about Haitian migrants eating pets.
On Friday, Acosta played a clip of Trump saying, âMigrants are walking off with the townâs geese, theyâre taking the geese⌠and even walking off with their pets.â
He noted there are âreal-world consequencesâ to such rhetoric as he highlighted recent bomb threats in Springfield, Ohio.
âWe were talking about the Biden-Trump debate a little while ago, and there were all these calls for Biden to drop out of the race and step aside after that debate performance,â Acosta said. âWhen the former president is talking about people stealing geese and eating dogs and cats, I mean, shouldnât there be a conversation about whether Trump should step aside even at this late stage?â
Watch the video below:
Conservative CNN contributor Scott Jennings shot back, âNo, come on! Heâs the Republican nominee. He went through a primary. And unlike the Democrats, we actually respect the democratic processâŚâ
âBut, Scott, I remember you going on and on about President Biden after that debate,â Acosta interjected. âAnd âIâm just wondering, do you think that Trump is all there? Is he of sound mind? Talking about people stealing geeseâŚâ
Jennings responded, âDonald Trump is the same candidate today that he was in â16 and â20⌠He is the same and he represented the same kind of Politics that he always has.â
âBut, no, I think to compare him to the absolutely mentally vacant Joe Biden kind of ridiculous honestly,â he added.
